karma

in everything we do.

Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म[1]; Pali: kamma) is the concept of "action" or "deed", understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect.  Karma is a word meaning the result of a person's actions as well as the actions themselves.  It is a term about the cycle of cause and effect.  According to the theory of Karma, what happens to a person, happens because they caused it with their actions. It is an important part of many religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.  Karma is about all that a person has done, is doing and will do.  Karma is not about punishment or reward.  It makes a person responsible for their own life and how they treat other people.

The "Theory of Karma" is a major belief in Hinduism, Ayyavazhi, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. All living creatures are responsible for their karma - their actions and the effects of their actions.

ANN ARBOR'S MARIA PETRENKO: A CHILD OF PERESTROIKA BELIEVES IN DETROIT'S FUTURE

ANN ARBOR NEWS

Maria Petrenko sees the world as full of possibilities.

Where many people view Detroit’s downward spiral as unstoppable, she sees the city as a blank canvas that will, no doubt, turn into a work of art in only a few years. World poverty? That’s fixable too, she believes, if everyone chips in to help.
There’s a powerful reason for Maria’s optimism. She was born in the former U.S.S.R. in a provincial city called Taganrog, part of a communist society that did all it could to stifle her creativity. Yet, at age 35, she owns her own successful company in Ann Arbor, Hadrout Advertising+Technologies, which provides creative services to small and medium-size businesses.
If she can make that improbable journey, what dream is impossible?

A Different Kind of Spring Break

Mimi Keebler in New Orleans

On spring break from Eastern Michigan University in 2008, Mimi Keebler visited New Orleans with a few friends to work on rehabilitating houses after Hurricane Katrina. Mostly working in the Lower 9th Ward, Mimi and her friends helped insulate and paint houses and cook and serve in community centers. She learned a lot about New Orleans' beautiful culture and heard many stories of struggle. Mimi fell in love with the people, sights, sounds and food of The Big Easy.
